Proenza Schouler Fall 12 Preview

"Inspired by their trip to Nepal and Bhutan, Fall 12 for Proenza Schouler is going oriental."

Although there are many shows going on during New York Fashion Week, sometimes even overlapping one another, there's only a handful that I look forward to every season. One of them is Proenza Schouler. Besides their cult hit PS1 bags (my first and only dream bag), the brand is also known for their youthful take on luxury clothes. Their fabrication every season is customized and so intricate, that fast fashion couldn't possibly emulate it. They have an original point of view and they do what they do the best and in the fashion industry that's half the battle.

Inspired by their trip to Nepal and Bhutan, Fall 12 for Proenza Schouler is going oriental. Fabrications are subtly influenced by kimono fabrics or martial-arts Kendo uniforms. As for the silhouette? "We like something really slouchy" said McCollough. Oversized jackets and inflated pea coats are expected at their 8PM show tonight. But don't equate slouchy with sloppy as they were inspired by "This idea of strength." There are pieces like the leather basket-weave wrap skirt to balance the enlarged pieces.

Based on the preview, we're in for another great show. These past few years Jack and Lazaro have been inspired by their travels and have always managed to maintain the DNA of Proenza Schouler in every collection. This season is no exception. The boyish downtown girl is back and that, is my favourite kind of Proenza.

P.S. Bring on menswear already!
