Menswear Fall 12 Trends Part Two: Man Capes

Yesterday, I showed Early Trends From Menswear for Fall 12 and already another one is popping up everywhere.

For Menswear Milan Fashion Week 12 there was quite a few designers who decided to show capes for men. It was seen in Dolce and Gabanna's plush collection while Jil Sander did it in leather. Roberto Cavalli took it a few steps further and sent down an electric purple poncho down the runway. Calvin Klein on the other hand showed a more wearable look: a hybrid of a poncho/parka.

If you're looking for a wearable interpretation then look no further. Ermenegildo Zegna and Neil Barrett showed bell coats on their shows. Like the poncho and the cape, the bell coat has a triangular shape but still have functional sleeves like a coat.

What do you think of this trend?

  1. I think it's likely to become popular. some of those capes are quite fashionable. I like the leather and the beige one in the front of your picture. I am not sure what fabric that is but the styling is interesting. People like dramatic looks and capes help to achieve that.
